  • Full scholarship to attend Ballet Forte's Bailar al Sol
Listen to the TCHS dancers below reflect on why participating in summer dance program and summer dance training is important.

Jefferson Konah: "Summer Intensives are a great way for dancers who attend public, private, or academic based school to experience somewhat of a professional dancer's work load and determine if they would want to become a professional. If a dancer has already decided to become a professional then it's, of course, even more important to experience such a rigorous amount of training."
Over the summer, Ms. Zwierzynski also completed some professional learning courses to continue to hone her craft. Ms. Zwierzynski attended the Foundation for Education Administration's Arts Integration Workshop with fellow educators from TCHS VPA. Ms. Zwierzynski independently attended the Dance Education Laboratory's LMA/LOD Summer Institute.

Jose Lapaz-Rodriguez has been named as the Dance 2017 State Showcase Scholarship Recipient.

Jose Lapaz-Rodriguez, Trenton Central High School Senior, was awarded the 2017 New Jersey State Teen Arts Festival State Showcase Scholarship in Dance. The 2017 New Jersey State Teen Arts Festival's State Showcase Scholarships have been made possible by the generous support of the Geraldine R. Dodge intended to assist in furthering the arts education of the recipients. The recipients of the 2017 State Showcase Scholarships were selected from the individual students in 11th and 12th grade who showcased for adjudication at the 2017 New Jersey State Teen Arts Festival. Each of the 2017 Showcase Scholarship Recipients were selected by the specific Adjudication Artists who critiqued the students' creative works at the New Jersey State Teen Arts Festival.

To present at the State Teen Arts Festival, Jose Lapaz-Rodriguez and his peers from Trenton Central High School’s Dance Department, under the artistic direction of Elizabeth Zwierzynski, successfully presented excerpts of their evening length production, Un-Broken at the Mercer County Teen Arts Festival. These performances were selected to advance to the State Teen Arts Festival where the TCHS Dance Department presented sections “To This Day” and “Fire Song” from Un-Broken. Dance professionals Dale Schmid and Randy James adjudicated the works from Trenton Central High School awarding them with distinguished scores in each category.

Jose Lapaz-Rodriguez will be attending Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University to pursue his B.F.A in Dance. To read more about Jose and his accomplishments in Dance, please read "Jete Forward: Male Dancers Launch into Collegiate Study"
